From the dark side of SYF comes Vodka Red Butch (Dirty & Slow Edition). By Douce Angoisse, from the e.p Golden Tuna. Slow, dirty electro accompanied by raw, stripped-down film making. I like how this one played out; it evolved organically and has a filthy, Texas Chainsaw feel about it. Mildly NSFW if your W is lame.
Edited from a live performance at Vitrola, Montreal in summer 2014, cut down from a single-take continuous shoot. 5D wearing an EF 85mm at ISO-640 f1.2. Almost no grading, just some noise clean-up.
Video for Douce Angoisse single No Pain No Gain, from the E.P Golden Tuna. Music by Douce Angoisse, mix by Léon Combs, video by Tony Mines for Spite Your Face Productions.
Run/Gun improvised shoot with a 5D mounted EF 85mm lens. Conceived and shot inside of an hour, this is my answer to the question of Chris Doyle shooting illegally in the airport that one time. White Russians were imbibed accordingly.
Directed by Tony Mines, DOP Tim Drage, with additional editing from Alec Rossiter and make up by Sophie Knock. Additional Art Directing by Ciaran O’Shea. Special thanks go out to Molinare and Tandem Films for use of their facilities.
All of the Dead, 1999, Spite Your Face Productions. 8mm Film.
This was the first ever ‘brickfilm’ online. That’s our story and we’re sticking to it. We googled real hard trying to find any others back then; we googled so hard we probably used altavista, that’s how hard we googled.
If you concentrate real hard on this semi-improvised, largely out-of-focus animation you will find documented the entire evolution of horror cinema, from the silent era through to when it stopped being any good in about 1987.
The Hackney Wicked Festival is a three day open arts festival held in one of London’s most creative ghettos, beneath the shadow of the Olympic stadium. Tony Mines attended the 2010 festival and put together this ad hoc film along the way. We call the film ‘accidental’ because we didn’t plan to make it at all, but something just came together along the way, in between dancing on tables.
Guerilla music video. Conceived of and shot inside of an hour, in Times Square, New York, edited on the plane home, delivered the following week! Hand held DSLR, audio downloaded on location to iphone using local Starbucks wifi. October 2012
Experimental animated scifi adventure, directed by Tim Drage, 1999.
The film relates the activities of a Rabbit and her mummified robot friend, who set out to free some ants from the clutches of an evil Mad Scientist. Will they infiltrate his Anti-Ant Plant? What’s he got against the ants anyway? Why don’t they rescue that poor bear too? What does it all mean? What’s going on? Whose hands are those? What!?
All these questions and more, are ignored in Remarkably Bold Venture of the Rabbit.
